Editorial Strategies for the History of Art https://teca.unibo.it/article/view/15228 <p>The paper reflects on <em>Il libro d'arte in Italia (1935-1965)</em> edited by Massimo Ferretti (Pisa, Edizioni della Normale, 2021), as a starting point for further critic reasonings about the relationship between History of Art and Publishing in the Twentieth century. Recalling the statements in the book, the paper remarks a range of topics, like the material aspects of editorial production, such as photography as illustration technique, and the planning of specialized series as the output of cultural projects. The project envisages the identification, cataloguing and digitalization of the papers produced in Fabriano over a period of seven centuries. Novello». The project was intended to turn on the spotlights on the rare books held by the Library, especially the Sixteenth century ones. The students learned to recognize the printers’ devices, to study and to analyze them, as well as to use specific databases and reference works. Eventually, they created storytelling-movies, showing the development of printers’ devices. With News about Three Missing Copies https://teca.unibo.it/article/view/15791 <p>In 1862, José Bonilla Ruiz, the librarian of the University of Salamanca, developed a catalogue of the incunabula held by the University Library, but that work was never published. Although he had done this work partially on his own initiative, it was linked to other tasks he was carrying out in the Library, like quantifying collections, writing new bibliographic descriptions and working out new indexes. His work reveals an early attempt to describe the incunabula included in a collection, with innovative features, like copy details. On the other hand, this catalogue does not take into account the bibliographical tradition on incunabula which had developed since the <em>Repertorium</em> by Ludwig Hain. The Choir Library of Sant’Agostino in Siena Between Conservation and Dispersion https://teca.unibo.it/article/view/15775 <p>The paper displays the first results of the cataloguing of the choir books of Sant’Agostino in Siena, a project in progress at the Central Library of the Augustinian Province of Italy (Viterbo). This case study is also a precious opportunity to retrace the dense network (in some cases very complex) that connects this liturgical library to the major national and international, public and private, collections. The choir books of the Augustinians of Siena show in fact – as it often happens for this type of manuscripts – considerable shortcomings, produced by the removals aimed at offering the art market illuminated cutouts. Filippo Luigi Polidori, the «Biblioteca Nazionale» and Felice Le Monnier https://teca.unibo.it/article/view/15882 <p>During the Italian Risorgimento, the name of Felice Le Monnier has been constantly associated with the publishing of volumes and book series that shaped the cultural identity of the newborn nation. One book series especially, the «Biblioteca Nazionale», represented the strive to harmonize civil/political engagement with literary tradition. Although this book series has been subject to several studies, none of them delved into the processes and editorial practices behind it. Some unpublished letters at the Federiciana Library in Fano (Marche) may be the answer: the letters between the publisher Felice Le Monnier and his proofreader, the intellectual Filippo Luigi Polidori, could fill the editorial gap of the «Biblioteca Nazionale». These sources provide information on the transfer of the libraries from the Colleges of Val Noto to the University Library of Catania. By a royal decree (October 31<sup>st</sup> 1767), a few months after the Spanish regulations, the Jesuits were expelled from the Reigns of Naples and Sicily and all their assets were confiscated. In the Historical Archive of the University of Catania, the manuscript <em>Casagrandi no. 70</em> collects the delivery receipts of the collections destined to the University Library.
