This paper explores the research methodology adopted by Pasquale Nerino Ferri and Igino Benvenuto Supino, art historians and Florentine Superintendence officials in the last quarter of the Nineteenth century. A specific focus will be devoted to the use of photographic reproductions of works of art in the museum management and administration, and for historical-artistic studies.
