The article discusses the key role of the Court Archives in approaching cultural and artistic heritage in Early Modern Europe through the example of a minor branch of the Gonzaga House. The documents, still preserved in the Archive of Novellara and digitalized with particular attention to the artists and their network, to the works of art and their market, clearly show the importance of this family for the history of patronage and collecting in Northern Italy.
